Customs Clearance at Østby – Norway–Sweden Border

Østby (Rv 25) is a road border crossing between Norway and Sweden in the Trysil region.

The route connects Trysil and Innlandet with Sweden and is used by both local and international commercial transport.

If you are transporting commercial goods through Østby, the customs documentation and Digitoll information should be prepared before the vehicle reaches the border.

Østby is therefore not a 24-hour customs crossing, and commercial transport should be planned according to the customs office opening hours.

Digitoll at Østby

Østby is equipped with a Digitoll tablet for arrival registration and routing signals.

Before reaching the border, the required transport and consignment information should already be submitted digitally.

At Østby, the driver can use the tablet to register arrival and receive a routing signal.

The result can be:

Green signal – the vehicle may continue without reporting to the customs counter.

Red signal – the driver must report to the customs service counter.

This procedure is different from Svinesund and Ørje, where ANPR cameras automatically register the vehicle and electronic signs display the routing signal.

Customs clearance before arriving at Østby

The customs procedure should be prepared before the truck reaches the Norway–Sweden border.

The truck travels:

Sweden → Østby → Trysil

Before the vehicle reaches the border, the invoice, packing list, CMR and vehicle information are sent to TollAgent AS.

We prepare the required Norwegian customs documentation and Digitoll information.

At Østby, the driver registers the vehicle’s arrival using the Digitoll tablet and receives a routing signal.

If the signal is green, the vehicle can continue.

If the signal is red, the driver must report to the customs service counter.

NCTS and T1 at Østby

Goods can also cross the border at Østby under an NCTS transit procedure.

For shipments travelling under T1 or another transit procedure, the relevant MRN must be referenced in Digitoll.

Depending on the customs procedure, the transit may be completed at the border or continue to an agreed customs destination in Norway.

No.

The current opening hours are Monday–Friday 08:00–21:00, Sunday 15:00–21:00, and the customs office is closed on Saturdays.

Does the driver always need to report to the customs counter?

No. The driver uses the Digitoll tablet to register arrival and receive a routing signal.

The Digitoll procedure at Østby uses a tablet for arrival registration and routing. The automated ANPR system with electronic signal boards is used at Svinesund and Ørje.
